Where to For Professional Mac Users?

It’s been a long time since the Mac Pro had a proper update apart from a minor speed bump. The professional users felt neglected by the company that had for decades been the mainstay of power users: graphics and video profesionals.

Part of the reason is that regular Macs have been getting more powerful over time and can do much of what Pro users required as long as the specs were as high as possible. iMacs that had been configured with the highest specifications were doing the job and not many people were buying the Mac Pro any more. Many wondered if Apple would bother with the Pro users now that they were a huge consumer company, more concerned with iPhones than Final Cut Pro.

Then at the World Wide Developer Conference in June 2017 the answer arrived. Professionals have not been forgotten. The Mac Pro is dead and the new king is the iMac Pro.

And what a beast! Respendent in charcoal grey it looks like no other iMac and inside is the grunt to do anything you like. It’s not cheap, which will put off all but the serious pros, but that’s as it should be. This isn’t for email and Facebook, it’s for editing video and high end graphics creation.

So the nay sayers can relax. Apple hasn’t forgotten the pros, it’s just upped the game.
