.Goodbye Sagaro and Lightforce: Unexpectedly, on Monday 5th May Lightforce Computers closed their doors after 22 years continuous trading in the Byron Shire. Many of us who have bought our computers and peripherals there will be sad to see them go and be faced with the inconvenience of going much further afield for warranty repairs — PowerMax in Lismore (6622 4996) or Robina Apple Store. The nearest Mac shop is Mullum Mac (6684 6235) but they currently don’t do warranty repairs, offer education prices or fix iDevices. Plus Clix in Marvel Street, Byron 6680 9166. Another triumph of big business price gouging over small business and service. Shame.
.Recover Deleted Files with Disk Drill: Many of us have lost data due to mistakes of all types — no backup being the main one. Disk Drill offers to locate deleted files on any of the attached disks like your backup or main hard drive or USB drives and camera cards. Its free to download and try and see if it finds your files then you can pay $90 to buy the software and recover them. There is hope out there… http://www.cleverfiles.com
.Canva Makes Web Design Easy: Or so they claim! It does simplify blog and basic web design a lot and it’s free. If you want a proper grown up site you’ll still have to pay a proper grown up web designer… https://www.canva.com
.Jimi USB Extender: Named after Jimi Hendrix – why I don’t know – this nifty little extender means that you can access the USB port from the front of your iMac. On the newest, slim line model iMac that is. $15 each. http://www.bluelounge.com/products/jimi/
.Flikr App: Flikr now has it’s own app free from the App Store if you’re a Flickr user. https://www.flickr.com
.Adobe Voice: Aimed at the modern video world of communication, Adobe Voice is a freebie for making explainer videos, those animated videos with heaps of images and your voice over. David Pogue loves it… Get it from the App Store, for iPad. https://www.yahoo.com/tech/you-know-adobe-right-this-is-the-company-that-85081015729.html?src=rss
.Parking Maestro: A very clever app that reminds you when you need to get back to the car you have parked and avoids fines. It calculates automatically how long you took to walk away from it and lets you know when to begin the trek back. Free. http://www.parkingmaestro.com
.i-Device Screen Fix: Get your iPhone screen fixed in Byron at Clix in Marvel street, 6680 9166 or the Fonebooth in Fletcher Street, 0266858727 or 0423168250.
.Image Framer: Those of us who want to frame pictures will like this. Download to try it and if you like it the images you have created can have their water marks removed for $30. http://www.apparentsoft.com/imageframer
10. Items for Sale: Is a free service. If you want to list something for sale send me the full description/specifications and contact details.
11. A Reminder of My Rates: I charge $110 per hour including GST. No call-out fee or travel charge in the Byron Shire. Half hour minimum. Telephone support costs the same in 15 minute increments. Email support is still free! Please include plenty of detail in your email inquiries. Serving the Byron Macintosh community for over 13 years. Until next time, Thank you Tommi ;>)
