Clam XAV Virus Scanner

Clam XAV is a free Open Source virus scanner.
First download it from http://clamxav.com and install it by dragging the ClamXav.app into your Applications folder:
Then look in Applications and open it from there.
It will then open the basic Clam XAV window. When it opens click the Update Definitions icon to make sure the latest daily update is running.
Click on the Prefrences button on the right of the toolbar to get the Preferences window:
Select the Quarantine tab from the window's toolbar and tick the box marked Quarantine infected files to: as I have in the window above, then click the button that says Set quarantine folder... and a Finder window will open showing the Macintosh HD hard drive on the left which you can select (if its not already selected).
Click the New Folder button on the bottom left and name the folder that appears Quarantine. Click the blue Open button to choose it.
Clam XAV will now move any infected files it finds when you perform a scan into this folder.
Back at the main Clam XAV window, select your home folder (with your name and a little icon of a house) and click the Scan icon to perform the scan. It might take up to 15 or 20 minutes if you have a lot of data. It will let you know if it has found any dodgy files and will have moved them to the Quarantine folder. You can trash them from there.
When its done you can select your Applications folder from the Clam XAV window and scan your applications as well just in case...
